“when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out” [Mark 10:47]
January 16
“when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out”. Three factors contributed to his startling behaviour. First, he believed that Jesus could do something for him: second he was advised that Jesus was passing by and thirdly he knew that Jesus did not turn away anyone in need. This made him cry out and to continue shouting until Jesus heard and responded.
We might say that the man was aware of his need also, but really that is too obvious. Sadly man in general is not aware of his need today. You would think that sin and judgment no longer existed.
As a result, not many cry out for mercy. This blind man was the only one in the crowd that cried to Jesus. And he was the only one who received mercy. It is the same today.
