“study to be quiet” [I Thessalonians 4:11]
June 29
“study to be quiet”. Being quiet does not come naturally to most of us – not for any length of time anyway! It calls for application or study to perform the exercise.
Our desire must not be to be known for our much speaking.
And we do not want to meddle in other’s affairs – a condition that usually indicates we neglect our own.
Some think that noise hides reality – like the loud music that deafens some ears – or will cover weakness in our argument – like the speaker who inserted in his notes “shout here; argument weak!”
For some time each day we need to be still and quietly wait upon the Lord. This is something that the world at large misses, but we must cultivate the habit if Christ would fill us with His grace.
