“This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he sent” [John 6:29(RAV)]

“This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he sent”. Jesus had told His hearers they should not labour for the food which perishes – labouring for feeding this life to the exclusion of labouring for everlasting life.
They then asked Him what they needed to do that they may work the works of God. Did they recognise that God’s work is wrought through human agency? The answer Jesus gave them is one that should challenge us. Have we put our trust in Jesus, the One whom God has sent? Not merely do we belong to a Christian group or try to put the teaching of Jesus into practice, and so on, but do we believe in Him? Trusting Him to save us and cleanse us, to commission and to equip us – this involves a definite act of asking Him and then admitting Him into our life.
