“who loves to be first”. Diotrephes became the cause of much upset within the local Church because of this unchecked desire. The way of the world is to push oneself, trample on others and shout the loudest – if you want to succeed. But things are different in Christ’s kingdom. Those wanting to be great must be servants and those wanting to be first must be the slave to others. Strong words that don’t sit easily into today’s society.
False humility is not what it’s about but a change of heart which is the work of the Holy Spirit. There’s a joy and delight that comes with real service for the Lord that the world’s highest positions cannot give. It is also noticed by the One who gives lasting reward. Be happy to be last so that Jesus is first in your life.
