“your sorrow shall be turned into joy” [John 16:20]
September 30
“your sorrow shall be turned into joy”. Jesus does not promise His followers exemption from sorrow. He does promise that whatever sorrow they experience will be turned into joy.
It is a mistake to assume that if you walked closer to the Lord you would have no cause for sorrow: likewise it is wrong to think that it is God’s will to lift you out of all difficulties and stresses. The Christian is sometimes called to bear more than the average weight of sorrow.
Remember Jesus’ sorrow as he wept over Jerusalem.
If the Children of Israel were bowed down with grief before the Lord led them out of Egypt, it should come as no surprise for the child of God today to feel the same.
But you can see an end to your sorrow – it will be turned to joy.
