“be imitators of God, as beloved children” [Ephesians 5:1(RSV)]

“be imitators of God, as beloved children”. Children make good imitators because they watch. They stand and stare and take in everything. Then when you’re gone, they put on a little show that takes you off to everyone’s amusement.
Those striving after godliness should note the illustration. You will only become like the Lord as you walk with Him in your everyday life. You can only know His teaching when you read and listen to His Word. Your life will only begin to display His love and attraction when, like Him, the Holy Spirit dwells within you.
Those who walk in the Spirit do not fulfil the lusts of the flesh – they are beloved children. Those who love Jesus keep His commandments – and the love of the Father is in them. Discipleship is practised by beloved children.
