“great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised” [I Chronicles 16:25]
January 6
“great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised”. David’s words are an exhortation to us today. It is not enough to recognise that God is great: we are to praise Him.
Praise is the highest form of exercise. The Lord is the only true object for that exercise.
Of course, it can be said that all who recognise His greatness cannot help but praise Him. His praise is their delight. He deserves the praise of His People and His People love to praise Him. Such glimpses as we have into heaven show us praise to be its chief, if not sole, engagement. A very imperfect illustration may be seen in the man who falls in love with a maid – so deeply in love that she is all he can think about and everything he does is for her or has her in mind. She is to be greatly praised by him. So it is with the lovers of Jesus.
