“they made reconciliation with their blood upon the altar” [II Chronicles 29:24]
January 8
“they made reconciliation with their blood upon the altar”. The old hymn goes, “What can wash away my stain? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!” There is no reason to think the position has changed. Science and education have made clever sinners, the comforts of our age, contented sinners. Rebellion against God has produced wayward sinners. Pride abounds in conceited sinners.
But nothing has been found to make sinners saints except the blood upon that great altar – the cross of Calvary. Once in the end of the age Christ appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Only Jesus can reconcile the sinner to God.
The Old Testament sacrifices spoke of a Lamb of God that would be slain for sin. The New Testament makes it clear that it is by His blood alone we may be reconciled to God.
