“it seemed right to all the people”. The whole assembly of Israel agreed that David their king should bring the ark back from Kiriath Jearim where it had been temporarily lodging.
The failure on this occasion was that neither David the king nor his advisors did properly seek out the divinely appointed way to effect the removal and convey that to the people. As a result the ark of the covenant, the focal point of the worship of Jehovah, was carried on a new cart and steadied by Uzzah who was struck down dead.
The incident brings home to us the need to seek after God’s way and be properly advised by those over us – this must surely apply to things in life both great and small.
