“meaningless talk” [I Timothy 1:6(NIV)]

“meaningless talk”. It can be very convincing and sound very well and the more fascinating it appears the more useless it is likely to be. Talking for talking’s sake, or because you like the sound of your own voice is quite futile and can be harmful.
Paul’s wise counsel to the young man Timothy is not out of place today. The tongue is an unruly member and can lead many astray. There are folk around today who teach false doctrine and dwell upon myths and fables that they elaborate upon and detract from God’s work.
Sadly, they turn folk away from the truth. Paul describes them as not knowing what they are talking about!
Be on your guard against listening to or indulging in meaningless talk. Let your conversation be edifying and on heavenly things.
