“Search me, O God, and know my heart” [Psalm 139:23]

April 4

“Search me, O God, and know my heart”. We are encouraged to submit ourselves to health checks of one form or another. When something irregular is found, specialist advice is sought to correct what is wrong. Yet how many, even among those who acknowledge the Person of God, pray the Psalmist’s prayer in earnest?
Instead, we try to conceal the inner chambers of our heart from His all-seeing eye. How much blessing we miss, how much joy, love and fellowship we lose because we fail to get a regular heart check with the Lord!
When the Psalmist prayed “Know my heart”, he meant God to be in control of it and to direct it. Adam hid from God because the linking line of obedience and trust had broken. For the same reason men hide from God today. Only by allowing God to search your heart will you be led in the way everlasting.
