“Serve the Lord with gladness” [Psalm 100:2]

“Serve the Lord with gladness”. What a problem ‘miserable Christians’ are: there must be some doubt whether they really are Christians if they are miserable. Some people like this have gained Christians a reputation for being miserable.
But the true servants of the Lord are glad to be serving Him. Grateful for the privilege, happy in their employment, praising the Lord for all His goodness.
Persecution may be unpleasant, but it makes them sing – as did Paul and Silas in the Philippian jail. The burdens they are asked to carry may be great, but the deep peace they have in Jesus makes them anything but miserable.
So begone unbelief, fear, depression, and all melancholy.
Ours shall be a service of gladness for the Lord Who has done so much for us.
