“she stood in the doorway”. Did this Shunammite woman fill the doorway, waiting to receive what she needed? Was she like Jacob who wrestled with the angel and at daybreak when the angel wanted to depart, would not let him go until he blessed him.
She was a dominant character having got her husband to build on a room for the prophet Elisha but she had great sorrow of heart because she was childless. When Elisha called her to ask what he could do for her she stood in the doorway. Neither in nor out, she wanted to know what God’s promise was for her.
