“So I prayed to the God of heaven” [Nehemiah 2:4]

March 18

“So I prayed to the God of heaven”. Nehemiah embarked upon a course that could have ended in his dismissal from royal service under Artaxerxes the Persian king. He allowed his concern for the plight of his people hundreds of miles away in Jerusalem to affect his countenance and thereby his behaviour as the king’s cupbearer. When challenged by the king to give reason for his sadness and before seeking to answer, he made one of those quick reaction prayers that only those who walk in the Spirit can produce. And because of his integrity before God, the prayer reached the throne of heaven and the whole narrative recorded in the Book of Nehemiah is the outcome.
Might not more be achieved in our lives today if we resorted to the same habit of praying before we answered?
