“your God will be my God” [Ruth 1:16(GNB)]

“your God will be my God”. It does seem as though Naomi was a person about whom, if a Christian, you would say, ‘If that’s a Christian, I want to be one’! Ruth had seen Naomi as mother in the home and as widow at the graveside. She had no doubt learned to lean and depend upon her when in deep distress. Ruth was willing to leave her homeland to be with Naomi.
The most important thing was that Ruth wanted a faith like that which Naomi had. She saw it was no fine weather phenomenon. And it is likely she had seen how it stood firm when her own ideas were shaken.
There is no evidence of compulsion on the part of Naomi – just the contrary in fact. So today, when Christ is truly manifest in a life, the same attraction should be experienced.
