“Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help” [Psalm 146:5(RAV)]
February 19
“Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help”. Jacob was a devious character – a likeable rogue, until you felt the sharp end of his bargains as Esau did. He even laid down a list of conditions for God to fill, in return for which he would make Jehovah his God.
On one occasion he struggled and wrestled with an angel. However, an examination of his life is likely to reveal that God wrestled with him for most of his years. The Lord got Jacob where He wanted him though not without him struggling. He took his place with honour among the Patriarchs. Now if yours and my God is the God of Jacob, how blessed we are! The worst of us can find some kindred spirit in Jacob and if the Lord who helped him, helps us, we can be happy indeed.
