“howbeit our God turned the curse into a blessing”. This referred to the curse Balaam was asked to pronounce on the Children of Israel. Mankind has been labouring beneath a curse ever since the Fall in Eden.
An appreciation that it is the curse of sin makes for gratitude in accepting the blessing God has provided. The Devil has done his best to drive home the initial success he achieved when he entered into the lives of Adam and Eve. He has employed his agents as Balak tried to engage Balaam. But the Lord is ever turning a curse into a blessing for those who will submit to Him.
Dismay at the failure of man to live peaceably with his neighbour can be dispelled when the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts. It is the spread of the Gospel that turns the curse into a blessing.
