“pray for those who persecute you” [Matthew 5:44(NIV)]

“pray for those who persecute you”. This should not be merely that they may cease the opposition, our prayer should be that persecutors will turn into proclaimers – telling what God has done for them and how they have been changed after meeting with the Lord. It is very likely that many were praying in Damascus for Saul of Tarsus whom they heard was coming to imprison them.
God works in answer to prayer: He tells us that we often do not receive because we do not ask. We do not know who prayed for Saul but can be assured that there were those who did – not just for themselves but for their persecutors.
Here their prayers were answered! Saul did a right about turn after his Damascus Road experience. He immediately began to preach the One whom he persecuted as the “Son of God”. It’s worth praying for the persecutors.
