“teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine” [Titus 2:1(NIV)]

“teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine”. There must be more to the Christian experience than being happy – more than being lost in wonder, love and praise and no longer in touch with the reality of life.
Joy accompanies salvation and salvation is received by faith often without knowing very much about the foundations of that faith. And so teaching is needed and learning essential.
The child playing with his model railway engine must learn that it needs lines to run on and to be placed on those lines. They need to meet up, too, or it will be off the end of them.
The Bible must be our text book and the Holy Spirit our teacher. We need to understand what we read and to be sure it is the mind of God and not the whim of man that directs our thinking.
