“You have defied the word of the Lord” [I Kings 13:21(NIV)]

“You have defied the word of the Lord”. Life is littered with people who have taken the wrong turning. This happens in all sorts of ways and in many different departments of life. The Lord told a prophet from Judah that he should not eat or drink in any home in the northern kingdom. He disobeyed. Circumstances surrounding this prophet are worth noting:
1. He had been used of the Lord to carry God’s message to Israel: he was a valiant prophet.
2. He had resisted other invitations – he did obey so far.
3. He was deceived by a lying prophet.
4. A punishment for disobedience was carried out.
These can speak without enlargement. None of us can afford to be careless about our behaviour.
