“you shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around your neck”. Daniel was also promised a position as third ruler in the kingdom. But these were of no interest to Daniel.
Belshazzar had the sentence of death hanging upon him: his kingdom that he promised to share with Daniel would be wrenched from him before the night was out.
As Jesus said many years later, it is gaining the whole world at the cost of losing your own soul.
As you look out into the world today there may be many attractive offers – realise they are worthless if they draw you away from the truth of the gospel. Indeed, they are harmful when they prevent you from entering the kingdom of heaven.
Be like Daniel and tell the world to keep its enticements.
