“Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house” [Psalm 128:3(NIV)]

“Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house”. A help-meet was needed before the Fall and is still needed after it. Children can complete domestic bliss, but some are called to forego children of their own. Others are called to care for the orphans and destitute.
Fruitfulness in the woman of the home may be expressed in love, kindness, thrift and plain helpfulness. As a woman makes a home she may serve the Lord as faithfully and usefully as the bread-winner who goes out daily into the world.
Staying at home may not always be possible but it can be the highest honour.
The fruitfulness this psalm promises may originate in the home but it should extend far beyond it.
