“a great voice, as of a trumpet” [Revelation 1:10]

“a great voice, as of a trumpet”. The word ‘great’ occurs many times in the Book of the Revelation. There is great tribulation, a great sword, a great earthquake, a great star, a great furnace and the great river Euphrates, to mention but a few.
In this verse it is the greatness of His voice that catches our attention – powerful to calm the raging sea and to speak peace to the troubled heart. To the disciple it is as the voice of a shepherd to the sheep, recognised and loved.
The mightiest display is yet to come, however, for Jesus Himself said that all who are in the graves would hear His voice. In that day none will sleep: all will come forth at the resurrection.
